What is Scrum?

Quick answer

An Agile framework in which a small team delivers work in fixed-length iterations called sprints, with defined roles and regular reviews.

Scrum, explained

Scrum organizes work into sprints, usually one to four weeks long. Each sprint starts with sprint planning, where the team selects items from a prioritized product backlog. During the sprint, a short daily scrum keeps everyone aligned. At the end, a sprint review demonstrates the finished work to stakeholders, and a retrospective lets the team reflect and improve its process.

Scrum defines three accountabilities: the product owner, who prioritizes the backlog and represents customer needs; the Scrum Master, who coaches the team and removes obstacles; and the developers, who build the product. The framework is described in the official Scrum Guide. Scrum works well for complex, evolving products but can feel heavy if applied mechanically without real collaboration.
