What is Mesh Wi-Fi?

Quick answer

A home or office Wi-Fi system that uses several linked access points to spread one strong, continuous wireless network across a whole space.

Mesh Wi-Fi, explained

A traditional setup relies on a single router, which may leave weak spots in large buildings, multi-storey homes, or spaces with thick walls. A mesh Wi-Fi system uses a main unit connected to the internet plus additional nodes placed around the building. The nodes communicate with each other and appear as a single network, so devices switch to the strongest node automatically as people move around.

For example, a guesthouse with rooms across three floors could use mesh Wi-Fi so guests stay connected in every room and on the terrace, rather than switching between separate extenders with different network names. Mesh systems are managed through simple apps. Performance is best when nodes are connected with Ethernet cables or placed within good range of one another, and businesses should keep a separate guest network.
